The Trick to keeping Fresh Berries Fresher Longer

When I was a kid I remember hiking out to a remote field to pick Blackberries from a huge bush with my sisters. We ate as many as we could and brought back bags of them for later. They were so sweet and juicy and our hands and faces were purple. We knew nothing about anti-antioxidants back then, they just tasted so decadent and we had found the motherload of fresh berries so we were in heaven. I still have this fondness for berries... all berries ...lol.
These days I usually buy berries in small cartons and I have to watch out for mold. Want a trick for preventing moldy berries? Try Vinegar!
When you get your berries home, prepare a mixture of one part vinegar (white or apple cider probably work best) and ten parts water.
Spill the berries into the mixture and swirl around. Drain, rinse if you want, (though the mixture is so diluted I find you can't taste the vinegar,) and pop in the refrigerator.
The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit, and voila! Raspberries will last a week or more, and strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy and soft.
